Default Problems with Plasma and LCD TV's

If you're thinking of buying a Plasma or LCD TV, be very very careful in your research - because many models have inherent faults that can only cause a very disappointing user experience:

A problem is solarisation - you end up with a sub-standard picture quality, with the colours bleeding into one another in a process called "solarisation".

Additionally, there can be problems with lypsync - or, put another way, the sound and image are out of sync, with audio delays especially common.

Overall, do your research first, otherwise you could end up with a very disappointing experience.

2c.

I couldn't agree more, i was going to buy a Phillips LCD screen, it was basically the perfect screen for me. However i went home and googled it, and guess what. It turned out to only have 5W speakers....

Don't plasmas inherently have a limited life anyhow due to the nature of the plasma?

I just think there are way too many issues with plasma tvs, and it seems more new ones crop up each year.

I am definately an LCD guy going forward.

Overall, I think there are just too many problems with those things to make them worth the money. Perhaps later, if there are advances in plasma technology, things will improve, but I imagine that will be awhile into the future.

I also have a Samsung LCD screen but so far I haven't encounter any minor problems yet.

Oh! I got a shock. I have purchased one from Sony. It's only two months old. Though as of now I have not faced any problem, but your experience has certaingly created a question mark on my mind.

I'm definitely going for a Samsung LCD HDTV. I'm practically sold on these. They're incredible.

We have a Mitsubishi 62" DLP in our living room and Samsung 50"/42" plasma tvs in the game room and bedroom respectively. The DLP has a great picture, and I know you can replace the bulb when it burns out - not cheap, but definitely cheaper than the TV. The picture quality, good as it is, still doesn't compare to the quality on our plasmas. Even our analog channels look decent, and the HD channels look amazing. We did a lot of research before we bought our plasmas, and Samsung says it will last 60,000 hours of use - that's about 83 months of 24 hour usage - about 7 years. And that's all day every day, most people just don't watch that much TV. I would do some more current research on plasmas before you take advice that says they won't last - it's obviously very outdated.
