Default Warning on home cinema compatibility

Just a quick warning - something you absolutely need to be sure of when buying a home cinema system is compatibility between products.

I had serious problems with Comet, after being recommended a Plasma TV and DVD player - which weren't even properly compatible.

The big issue was the DVD player not having the proper output connections required for a Plasma TV, to help ensure decent picture quality, resulting in a disappointing overall experience - not least because Comet decided to be difficult about the issue and refused to issue a refund.

Had an exchange in the end, but left me plenty sore because of it.

Hmm, it sounds to me like you were well within your rights to get a refund. Have you considered following up the complaint - if nothing else the store manager could use knowing about it so that he can train his staff to stop them from doing the same to another consumer.

I ended up simply getting an exchange, but would have much preferred a refund. At the time, having just moved house and trying to keep my business afloat, I just couldn't face the additional hassle.

You live and learn...

You know I hate relying on the help and knowledge sometimes of the workers only because of what happened to you. They really need to make sure that their employees know what they are talking about or just say so if they are not sure. I just got my boys and xbox360 and was told by an employee to get movies to play on it you had to buy the remote also. Which was not the case at all.

It is very common for the staff to just repeat what they think it right and not check out their facts. Also they do tend to backtrack and do the denial bit.
