Default Dolby 5.1 surround system for PC?

I am looking for a complete speaker and sound system to go with my pc. Does anyone have any recommendations. It is in a typical office space.

Does the soundcard already deiver a discrete 5.1 output? At any rate, the 110° speakers are going to be difficult to place unless mounted on the ceiling.

I've got a set up using a Creative 5.1 soundcard plus a Cambridge Soundworks 5.1 speaker set up.

To be honest, getting the best is a challenge, as it's a good but small speaker set-up - but it does have a generally nice sound, so long as you're near the PC. Lovely bass for film trailers, too.

That sounds like an excellent solution. I keep thinking about a more extensive sound system, but wonder how much I'd actually use it. I really want a new flat screen lol.

It's not merely a question of power; when you mix a film in surround, te stereo reduction is never the right balance. You don't have to be sitting at the focus of eight thousand watts of high efficiency loudspeakers like me; having the sound coming from the multiple directions gives extra information for the brain to distinguish more sound detail.
Certainly, for hearing what the mixer really intended, the system should be calibrated at 83dB for 20dB below peak level; but then you need very good soundproofind (or extremely tolerant neighbours)
