The discussion about lazer disks got me to thinking...does anyone else still use VHS tapes? I'll use them once in a while to tape a show, but that's about it.
I rarely watch the extras on my DVDs anyways . . .
I have a substantial collection of VHS still, seeing as DVDs didn't come out until I was about 14 and DVD players were really expensive for about 2 or 3 years after that. I still watch them, for sure. Why do I need to buy the same move on DVD if it works fine on VHS? I don't buy VHS tapes too much anymore, unless I see something that I want for extremely cheap.
Good point...I skip through most of the "extras" on DVDs too. I guess I like the ease of use with DVDs and I think the picture looks much better, but there's nothing inherently wrong with a good old VHS.
I have an extensive collection of VHS tapes. Most of our Disney movies are on VHS for the same reason someone mentioned above. I was already 16 or so when DVDs were introduced and they were expensive when they were available.
I gave up on VHSs when the last VCR went on the blink. I sat here wondering if it was worth replacing just to see a bunch of things I'd already seen and I decided no lol.
It's kind of like replacing an eight track tape player after cassettes came out. I collected laser discs and got rid of all of them after a while, and I'm certain dvds will one day be the same ...I'm in to renting now anyway lol.
Well, this is a weird subject for me, as I was addressing this issue with my wife. We own around a hundred or so tapes, and they have not been used in a while. But we don't get rid of them. They just sit there in the drawers taking up space. We have VCRs, but we likely will just buy more DVDs to replace the video tapes.
