I'm trying to not buy so many DVD's at present - the bargain bins are always tempting, but I find myself barely watching a number of even these more than once - so it would often be better to simply rent rather than buy.
Normally I wouldn't consider renting, but I think it's fair to say I've burned money buying DVD's on the basis of wanting to simply watch the movie, rather than a desire to own it - leaving quite a few turkeys on my shelf.
Anyway, anyone here make a habit of renting rather than buying DVD's?
I used to rent, but I don't really like a whole lot of movies, so it wasn't cost effective. I have a short list of movies I really, really love and I just watch those over and over and over again, so it makes more sense to buy them. However, I would rent through Netflix, just because of the wide range of stuff you can find that you wouldn't be able to get at your local video store.
With so many movies in existance, I rarely have the time nor the desire to watch the typical movie more than once. So it is always rent for me, unless it is a bargain bin blowout for a movie I have not seen.
I have a whole cabinet full of DVD's I just "had to have" and now they sit there collecting dust. We rent using Netflix now, so I don't see us purchasing a DVD for some time.
I'm also a fan of checking movies out from the library. You only have to pay money if they're late, and you can often check them out for up to a week, depending on your library's policies. It's a good way to test a movie without having to spend much.
plus the great thing about renting from a shop is the fact that you sometimes come home with a few really random films that turn out to be surprisingly good or hilarious but entertaining anyway. Stuff that you possibly would never have noticed.
