Default Violence in movies...

A lot of people enjoy watching action movies and other films with superb visual effects and fight scenes. Most of the time, these films are also accessible to children. Although this is just one form of entertainment, shouldn't filmmakers be more responsible when producing movies with violent scenes?

I think thats what the rating system is for. Unfortunately, the rating system and the enforcement of the rating system seems flawed.

I do think filmmakers should take responsibility to the violence in regards to their target audiences. It varies; I think it depends...

I gotta go with the idea that parents just need to keep an eye on what kids are doing/seeing, as well as theaters needing to do a better job of who's going to see which movie.
I did however see a funny video clip recently of a "300 with a PG-13 rating" and boy was it funny! Lots of cake!
It might be on YouTube.

It is funny because this topic has been around forever. Which means it started decades before we got to this point with movies as they are now. Yet they keep pushing the envelop and we keep looking back 5 years later and saying, "That movie wasn't all that bad.."

That's very true.
I just think eventually we'll all go back to our savage roots and say screw the rules because there's always loopholes anyway! Don't quote me on that ;P

I would have to agree that the movie theatres do need to do a better job of not letting in the younger kids. I mean I have never seen anyone carded to see a movie. That being said I am a parent and I just feel that it is my responsibility to know what my children are watching and if I am not sure of a movies content I always watch it first.

It seems it's only about the returns that movie makers are eyeing for. Of couse they can easily say that it's upto to the parents to keep checking which movies should their childrens watch.

Honestly, film-makers have become more responsible. You simply don't see the amount of blood-and-gore you used to. Look back to the 70's and 80's, where films filled with gratuitous violence were a mianstay in cinema. If anything, be thankful films of that ilk are no longer popular in the box office. The majority of violent movies of the present day do a better job at keeping things tactful; there are exceptions of course (Saw, Hostel, Cabin Fever, etc.) but be glad the ultra-violent is the exception these days.

I'd much rather know my kid snuck in to see 300 behind my back, than to have snuck in to Hellraiser II.

I feel movies are have more gore than ever before. There is a whole genre of pushing the envelop. that's not to mention the japanese gorefest which are popular with kids.

You are right about the Japanese movies. I know the kids around here seem to be getting into them. I personally haven't seen any and really have no desire to either.
