Has anyone else heard about this? The new Tira Reed movie "Incubus" is suppoused to be released directly to the internet for download. From what I understood it won't go to the theatres at all. They want to see how this will work out. I'm thinking this is the way they want to go with all movies in the future. Would be different.
Re: Movies to be released directly to the internet?
I would like to understand is the movie going to be available for free or viewers have to pay for that? If it is for free then how are they going to recover the cost?
Re: Movies to be released directly to the internet?
I know of a fairly mainstream director who is working on a project right now that will go directly to net downloads ...I have my reservations about the idea but it may well be the wave of the future. At the moment, I just can't get past it being like a glorified utube thing.
Re: Movies to be released directly to the internet?
I'm sure they will find a way to justify making it cost just as much as a movie theater movie! I don't think we are ready for this - because not everyone wants to watch a movie on their laptop, and not everyone knows how to route their laptop through their HD Surround Sound TV. I like the experience of a movie theater, even with my surround sound and big screen. It's just better.
Re: Movies to be released directly to the internet?
From what I'm reading, it's going to be a different kind of film production ...much more story driven. There's the current hot one about the 15 year old girl which started on myspace.com and has gained a real following. The longest segment is just a few minutes but they put them up a few times a week. So, maybe it's going more in the direction of serialization or soap operas.
Re: Movies to be released directly to the internet?
As a serialization or soap, I can see it succeeding. They are doing pretty well with TV online, so that would be an open market. I just think they would have trouble with an action flick - something that you like to see in the theater, like Star Wars or Armageddon.
Re: Movies to be released directly to the internet?
Riskey58 has a point their maybe if the new movies released to the internet directly it will be a different cost, maybe it is like a paper view that we watch in cable stations
