prefer to buy cds or download?
which do you prefer? I like the convenience of downloading, but it lacks the fun of actually BUYING the CD, reading the liner notes, unwrapping it...scratching it...

Re: prefer to buy cds or download?
Downloading has its advantages. However, I'm slightly old-fashined, and really prefer just getting CDs and ripping them to my computer. With downloading, as you mentioned, you don't get liner notes and album art, which I love. Also, I just burn my downloaded files to a CD anyway (in case my hard drive dies), so I might as well just buy the original CD. However, I just got out of 4 years of college in the middle of nowhere without a decent record store, so I started downloading stuff from iTunes (no way was I going to pay for shipping on already overpriced CDs). That, at least, is what I love about iTunes . . . reasonable prices!! Downloading legitmately is cheaper than buying a CD for the most part, and what broke college/graduate student doesn't love that?

Re: prefer to buy cds or download?
I have been out of the cd game for a while. It is all downloaded for me. I am a bit distraught we have moved away from MP3s and we are now onto new and in some cases propietary formats. I have thousands of songs as MP3s, and I like to keep everything the same.

Re: prefer to buy cds or download?
That is my big beef with iTunes, the format. I don't care what file format I use, just as long as it's consistent!! I wish the stuff I got from iTunes would work in other players. I don't really like WMP, but I don't love iTunes. But I'm kind of stuck with it if I want to keep buying from them. However, I stick with it largely because it's easy to find what I want from the iTunes store. Maybe one of the problems is that iTunes is always so prevalent, so I don't feel that motivated to research other online music stores.

Re: prefer to buy cds or download?
I've never ventured into downloading music believe it or not, but my husband is a pretty big fan of buying CDs so there's no need to get them online.

Re: prefer to buy cds or download?
I download all of my music. I don't think I've actually bought a CD in years.

Re: prefer to buy cds or download?
My CD-buying has definitely dwindled, but it still happens, especially if I find a discounted price on something I can't get cheaply as a download.

Re: prefer to buy cds or download?
For Pearl Jam, I buy and trade CD's. For most others, I download.

Re: prefer to buy cds or download?
How about satellite radio. Does anyone listen to satellite radio? I used to own a ton of cds, but I have not but a music cd for myself in 10 years.

I stil buy cds, but satellite radio is certainly edging them out in my case.
I listen to it in the car and absolutely love it!
