Default Future of iPod

Apple is going to launch iPhone in June which will have iPod in-built. For a potential customer it might make more sense to buy one device than two. Will iPod then remain as popular as now.

Like what other newer gadgets do to the "former frontrunners" in technology, I think the iPhone, if proven to be efficient and practical, will overcome the iPod's popularity.

The days of the single-purpose device are coming to an end; in many other countries around the world this is already the case. Apple will likely blend their higher-end iPod products into devices like the iPhone and will probably keep one cheaper alternative on the market for those consumers that do not want to jump on board. It won't be a matter of "Oh no, I have to buy an iPhone to get the new iPod," it will just be a circumstance of the purchase; much in the same way the Blu-ray player is an added bonus of purchasing a PS3.

I would agree that it might be hurt somewhat. But like with anything new, especially at the price they want for the iphone I think they will be all right for awhile.

I think the future of Ipod depends on the EU Itunes ruling. They are right now investigating into Itunes being in violation of laws.

Yes single utility devices are going to be phased out of the market. People are going for multi-utility devices.

Although people like those all in one solutions, they are often crap when they first come out. Look at the NGAGE, the idea was good and all, but the result wasn't as good. It had bad reception, and although the games were good, the mp3 function was quite bad as well. So that was pretty much a failure.

However, after trial and error, new products are released that eventually meet our standards. Perhaps the iPhone will be able to pull it off..

I don't remember the NGAGE myself. But I would agree with you sometimes the all in one products are just not a good way to go. I guess we will see here soon.

You are going to tell you grandchildren about a device to make calls with called a phone and that's all it did. Then they are going to look at you like you grew a third eye.
