Honestly, film-makers have become more responsible. You simply don't see the amount of blood-and-gore you used to. Look back to the 70's and 80's, where films filled with gratuitous violence were a mianstay in cinema. If anything, be thankful films of that ilk are no longer popular in the box office. The majority of violent movies of the present day do a better job at keeping things tactful; there are exceptions of course (Saw, Hostel, Cabin Fever, etc.) but be glad the ultra-violent is the exception these days.
I'd much rather know my kid snuck in to see 300 behind my back, than to have snuck in to Hellraiser II.
