Well, the quality was pretty good and if you were buying a player and say 100 good movies for a small amount, then it's sort of an instant collection.

Also, I had a few films that haven't been released on dvd yet so collectors snapped those up. That said, I know people who still collect VHS tapes which I wouldn't do, but I guess they have their reasons.
